It was Friday afternoon about 3 hours before the guests were to arrive for a function in our downstairs banquet room. The Chef was busy preparing for the gala event in the kitchen while James Smith the DJ was setting up his sound equipment in the room next door. The main audio controls for the sound system were located on the 2nd floor.
After James set up his sound equipment he had to go upstairs to test the audio controls to make sure that everything was working ok. The audio controls were located in the corner of the empty 2nd floor banquet room about 30 feet from the top of the stairs.
Jim ventured upstairs and had walked about 15 feet into the empty banquet room on his way to the audio controls when her heard a voice softly call his name ….. “James”. James stopped turned around but no one was there. He didn’t think anything of it. A few steps more … he heard his name called again slightly louder this time…. “James”. He turned around but no one was there. When he reached the audio sound equipment some 30 feet across the room he heard and an insistent voice call out loudly “I SAID JAMES, JAMES SMITH”!
James was startled and a little nervous. He quickly turned around and he saw hovering at the top of the stairs a misty mass dressed in an old time Sailors Garb. There was no other way out – James ran across the room straight through the misty mass and stumbled half way down the stairs and back into the banquet room. The Chef came out to see what the commotions was about and found a badly shaken DJ mumbling to himself “….never again, never again.”
James has returned to the Dock from time to time only as a patron but never as a DJ. He really doesn’t like to talk about what happened when asked.
